This new fleet of wheel loaders, which will join the existing Hyundai -9 Series, is set to be a game-changer across a range of industries, including the quarrying and mining sector. Having debuted overseas a few years ago, these loaders have been trade-tested and proven in the field.

“We’re excited to bring the new 900 series to NZ, ranging from 12 to 31 ton it offers the quarry market the best value on offer. With increased performance and a market leading operator environment, we expect to build on Hyundai’s success with the -9 model,” Scott Turner, Porter Equipment NZ national sales manager, says.

A key feature of the new 900 Series is machine simplicity. Featuring a tier 3 engine that forgoes the need for AdBlue or a diesel particulate filter (DPF), keeping cost of ownership and maintenance to a minimum, the new range also boasts improved fuel usage thanks to its smart power mode. Designed to reduce fuel consumption, the smart power mode automatically adjusts engine speeds while carrying out heavy load work to improve power delivery.

Porter Group have worked alongside the Hyundai factory to include a new hydraulic differential lock as standard in the new loader series. The hydraulically controlled diff lock works to further reduce fuel consumption while simultaneously improving axle durability by preventing tyre slip.

That, plus an enhanced rear axle capacity, auto engine shutdown, and an axle oil cooling system to prevent overheating caused by frequent braking and high-load work ensures the 900 Series is well suited to the demanding quarrying and mining environment. “The rear axle capacities have been increased across the range to offer greater durability along with better drive shaft alignment. These two factors combined, make the new configuration a truly robust design for the demanding New Zealand quarry application,” says Turner.

With improved performance comes improved safety. Having received overwhelmingly positive feedback on its inclusion in Hyundai HX excavator models, Hyundai’s Advanced Around View Monitoring System (AAVM) and Intelligent Moving Object Detection are both included in the new loader range as standard. The AAVM shows a top-down image of the wheel loader on a screen inside the cabin – showing where people are at all times, whereas the IMOD gives warning signs when people get within five metres of the unit.

Turner attests “It’s the safest machine on site. If anyone approaches the machine, the operator receives a warning. It’s a standard feature on the 900 series and as far as I know it’ll be the only one on the market that has both a 360-degree view of the machine and an alert system from factory.”

Ease of operation and maintenance have also levelled up in the Hyundai 900s. The operator cab is 11 per cent bigger than older models and features a new and improved air conditioning system to keep the driver comfortable in all conditions. The cabin is fully soundproof and the seat and armrest fully adjustable to help minimise operator fatigue. Machine maintenance is simplified with a full lift one-piece bonnet to help increase serviceability to the engine, and an auto-greasing system as standard.

Porter Group has also made Hyundai’s Hi Mate remote management system standard on the units; a back-to-base monitoring system that enables users to remotely evaluate machine performance, access diagnostic information and verify machine locations and fuel usage.
