The market for compact crushers and screens is growing in New Zealand and Australia. Along with construction and demolition projects, construction waste is providing new opportunities for businesses to earn additional profits. UK brand Portafill is widely recognised as a market leader whose innovative designs spawned the growth of compact crushing and screening over the last 15 years.

Designed with versatility in mind and ease of use in a variety of rock types and a number of recycling applications, Portafill builds its machines to be compact, easily transported and efficient.

The MI-8R is a modern compact impact crusher, ideally suited to crush concrete, rubble asphalt and medium stone. Unique to its crusher counterparts, it breaks apart rocks and stones by rapidly striking the material as opposed to utilising a pressure force.

The impact crusher's rotor is a 4 blow bar with the crusher opening measuring 820mm x 600mm (32” x 24”), an improvement on the previous MI-7R that had a smaller opening. The crusher drive is direct drive from engine via belts and is built with crusher overload protection.

The MI-8R can be fitted with a hanging screen, a recirculating screen and a conveyer system that returns oversized material to the crushing unit to enable more productivity.

As for footprint, the machine has closed-circuit working dimensions of L 14,000mm (45’9”) x H 2500mm (8’2”) x W 3760mm (12’4”).

The footprint for its open-circuit working dimensions are L 14,000mm (45’9”) x H 2500mm (8’2”) x w 7200mm (23’6”).

The machine's weight is 29,500 kg (65,000 lb) and it features hydraulic folding conveyers for compact easy transport. The transport dimensions are L 11900mm x H 3100mm x W 2525mm.

The feeder length and width are 3800mm x 2100mm (12’5” x 6’10”) and the screen box size is 3180mm x 1125mm (10’5” x 3”8”).

The width of the MI-8R's fines conveyor belt is 90mm (36”).

The hopper capacity is 2.6 cubic yards, or 3.9 cubic yards heaped.

Portafill’s MI-8R has an ideal reduction ratio of 1:12, with an end product size of 10-120mm.

The features for the MI-8R include:

  • vibrating feeder with load sensing capability which is energy efficient and cost effective
  • low fuel consumption for a low cost of ownership
  • patented feeder design to change the angle throw
  • Volvo Penta Tier 3 engine
  • impact bed under the crusher to improve machine reliability
  • excellent access to the engine area and other components for maintenance and service
