Mobile Screening and Crushing’s recently appointed operations manager, Matt Stone, reveals his recent introduction to the high-performance Terex EvoQuip 290R Impact Crusher and its many benefits to customer operations.

“After a hiatus of 2.5 years, my recent encounter with the Terex Cobra 290R Impact Crusher was a long-awaited moment for someone deeply rooted in the quarry industry. Witnessing this machine in action, after previously only seeing it in static displays, was truly eye-opening. As the big brother to the popular EvoQuip 230R Impactor Crusher, its performance surpassed all expectations, consistently producing high volumes of product with ease. During our site commissioning of the 290R, what struck me most was its straightforward setup process – a testament to its Terex user-centric design tailored for quarry operators. Moreover, seeing the satisfaction of the customers who hired it reaffirmed its value and practicality on the field. My first experience operating the Terex Cobra 290R reignited my excitement for the continual advancement of crushing technology, and its tangible benefits for every level of the quarry industry, from leaders to operators."

MSC’s 290R hire unit is pictured below on a recent job crushing alluvial; 250-300mm input size crushing and screening to 65mm, output was 270-300 tph consistently with 64% feeder speed and loaded by a 12-tonne digger.

MSC is proud to offer the EvoQuip Cobra 230R & 290R in its impactor range. And true to EvoQuip’s “Compact with Impact” ethos, both the smaller 230R and the 290R crushers pack a powerful punch while maintaining the ease of use and mobility operators are looking for. This was highlighted on a recent hire job the MSC impact crusher and screener were deployed to; the location had access restrictions that required the two machines to be tracked offroad over a two-hour period just to get to the site. Built compact and robust, Terex EvoQuip machines are well equipped to handle this type of job and after minimal set-up time they were soon getting down to what EvoQuip machines do best; building substantial stockpiles at exactly the required spec.

EvoQuip Cobra 290R Impact Crusher – features and benefits

The 290R is a versatile and easy to use track mounted impact crusher that can operate in the most demanding of applications such as reinforced concrete, recycled asphalt, construction and demolition waste and natural rock. The integrated afterscreen system ensures the required product specification is achieved with oversize material being either recirculated back to the crusher or stockpiled.

At the heart of the Cobra 290R is the Terex Impact Crusher with a rotor size of 1000mm (40″) x 1034mm (41.5″). This impactor has been developed using components and technology from some of the company’s larger impactors within the Terex range.

Fitted as standard is a hinged inlet lid, which greatly reduces the risk of material bridging at the feed-in point. Like the Cobra 230R crusher, the Cobra 290R also has two independent hydraulic controlled aprons, which allow the operator to optimise material throughput and reduction.

The patented hydraulic overload protection system not only protects the crusher in the event of an uncrushable piece entering the chamber, but also minimises apron bounce and reduces the amount of oversize material passing.

The tip speed of the rotor can be varied depending on the application and product requirements. Throughout the crushing process, the Cobra 290R constantly monitors the engine load and automatically regulates the feeder speed as required.

The Cobra 290R was designed with the operator in mind in terms of ease of use and serviceability, with ground level access to the engine, hydraulics, service, and refuelling points.

The EvoQuip Cobra 290R is easily transported between sites with minimal pack down and set-up times
